Greatness can be referred to individuals who possess a natural ability to be better than all others. This concept implies that the particular person or object, when compared to others of a similar type, has clear and noticeable advantage. All too often we perceive greatness with this definition in mind. We think that greatness is reserved for a few chosen people and that we are reserved to a role of standing by and watching “superstars” perform acts of greatness. All too often we compare ourselves to others and fail to realize that we all have the ability to be great in Gods eyes.
Luke 7:28 states:
“I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
John the Baptist was a great man of his time. He lived his life and used his ministry to serve Jesus and open the hearts of people for the coming of the Christ. As great as John was, Jesus says that those in God’s Kingdom are greater still — not because of what those in the Kingdom have done or will do, but because of the grace of God given through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice and adoption into the family of God.
Team Uppercut helps prepare us to be great as our participation in this group helps give us strength, strength both physically and spiritually. Together we exercise, study Gods word through weekly devotionals, and learn to rely and depend on each other for support and encouragement. By learning this simple lesson of how to lean on each other we open ourselves up to how important it is to rely on God in times when we do not feel so “great.”
For those of you on the fence about joining Team Uppercut or running in a race because you feel you are too slow…not good enough…too heavy…too weak…don’t have the time…or any other excuse you can think of let me remind you we all possess greatness. Watch the following Nike commercial I viewed the other night that helped me to realize that greatness is within us all.
If this young man can exude greatness then can’t we all? Please share this with anyone who is still deciding if they should join Team Uppercut. Greatness awaits.
I love this idea about greatness being within all of us. I believe God created all of us with the ability to be GREAT. Much of the time our greatness is lost because we continually compare ourselves to others. We try to be great like those “others” are being great. God created us as uniquely individuals and we will only be great when we are being ourselves. Greatness is about LEADING OURSELVES.
