Endurance for Life

Endurance for LifeRemember the days of playing in the sand at beaches and water fronts?  Do you also remember when the waves came and washed it all away; oh the frustration!  What about playing with building blocks, only to watch them topple over when our tower was too high? Sure sometimes we knocked them down just for fun, but when we wanted our tower to last, oh the agony!  I remember playing with my son, building an awesome fort for the two of us; hanging blankets over chairs, leaning couch cushions against sides of the fort walls and even trying to fashion a window for watching TV.  Then just when it was ready for the first entry, BAM, everything came crashing down in a heap of blankets and cushions. How to Increase Your PerformanceDo you remember when you first tried to ride a bike, run a mile, change a habit, or even pray?  For how long were you successful?  5 seconds, a block, 2 days, 10 seconds?  Being successful with those obviously took practice and time.  How about intensity or determination? Building Stability with Your Body

Building StabilityI drag myself through Taco John’s doors feeling like a walking skeleton.  I am soaked, my stability is shot and I stink.  All I need is water.  “Is it possible to get some water?” I say as I gasp for breath.  Basically it was like a scene out of 127 Hours.  Quickly, the lady behind the counter reaches for the largest cup as fast as she can.  I fill it with water and mumble some sort of thanks and continue running towards my goal of 20 miles.  The term “running” might be a little far fetched at this point.  I was spent.  My former stability was gone as  I stumbled the last few miles to my home.  I pressed on.  I was desperate to complete my goal. Finding Your Purpose

TeamCaptain —  August 21, 2012

running with purposeI was never a runner.   I hated running.  The closest I ever came to being a runner was during my high school football career.  But even then I only ran as to lay a smack down on some unsuspecting running back.  I could do that all day.  But I have never been interested in running aimlessly.  Until….

Finding Your Purpose

One day I was playing with my oldest son Jacob and after about fifteen minutes of chasing him around the yard I thought I was gonna die of exhaustion.  The catch here was he was only seven years old.  CRAP! I thought, if he is only seven now and I’m breathing this heavy, what am I gonna do when he is fifteen?  The next morning I started running.  I ran two miles and thought my face was going to explode off of my head.

It took me a month of face exploding runs before I began to find my feet.  It was during my first four mile run when a runner was birthed in me.  I was nervous.  Could I actually run four miles without stopping?  After a month of running I was sure a four miler would cause cardiac arrest.  I told myself that I would run for one hour straight.  If I completed the four miles in that time then great.  If not, then I would try again.
