REFLECT

Everything Team Uppercut is about is based upon Hebrews 10:39.  God didn’t create men to shrink back, run for cover or give up when life gets tough.  Men are designed to reflect Jesus’ glory and nature.  That’s what Team Uppercut is all about, throwing life a knockout punch, or not shrinking back when facing life’s toughest challenges.  Those challenges come in many forms and are unique to each of us.  When life tries to destroy us we need to be UNBREAKABLE.  That is what this season of training is all about.  Being a man that is unbreakable. Blind Ambition

1378334_10201464735134642_1032013717_nWhen prepping for the 50k race I did in October I set a goal of finishing in the top 25.  I felt I might even have a shot at breaching the top 10-15 if I had an excellent day.   I got so engulfed in that goal that it drove the pace of my training to new heights and helped me to dig deep and push harder.  Then end result was a 25th place finish out of 115 runners.   It felt great to accomplish it but the motivation for doing so was mostly self centered……this of course did not strike me until the hours following the race.

Team UppercutIt is great to set goals and engulf yourself in them to try to achieve greatness.   We all need goals and role models to look up to for motivation.  As I have been organizing and trying to figure out how to stay motivated to run 100 miles this year in preparation for the 100M4HUNGER run I realized that the source of your motivation or ambition is crucial to the success of reaching your goal and achieving fulfillment at the same time.

I dwelled on this a lot in the days after the 50k and thought what am I missing?….Why is this not such a great feeling? 

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified – 1 Corinthians 9:25-27

This is where the concept of 100M4HUNGER really hit me.  To run for the eternal prize would be an honor.  It would be filled with great reward.  The reward would extend to thousands of souls and not just mine.  The parts missing were a purpose worth running for and a role model worth looking up to.  I did lean on my faith while training for the 50k but not as much as I had planned….the new goal is to read the entire bible in 2014 and do so with the hope of keeping me grounded in Gods word so that his greater purpose for me will be revealed.  I will write/blog a post to share daily for those who want to see it to help me process what I read each morning.   If you would like to join me in this journey you can do three things.

TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING

It is time!  Summer is over and fall has arrived and with it so has Team Uppercut.  That’s right it is time to get off the couch and get connected to your team mate again.   On Tuesday, October 22nd  at 8:00 p.m.  Team Uppercut is gonna attack its next challenge:  TRX Suspension Training.   Mark Jenkins is going to be leading Team Uppercut through a intense six week, twelve sessions of TRX Suspension Training.  (Tuesdays & Thursdays) Team Uppercut will be partnering with Impact Martial Arts and Fitness Gym in the Oak Park Mall.  Here is what Mark has to say about Team Uppercut and TRX Suspension Training

The Details

1075428_532324630167683_1232961481_o“We will be doing a 30 minute TRX Suspension Training session twice a week for 6 weeks. (Tuesdays & Thursdays) TRX is a fitness activity that anyone can do, at any level.  A very efficient exercise that is the ultimate cross training.  We will then have about a 15 minute talk and prayer.  The theme is Declaring War: Wining the Everyday Battles.  Being a strong christian, a warrior in your marriage, dating relationship, family, community and church.  There will be a cost of $40 per person to cover the cost of the gym.  You will get 12 sessions for $40.”

Team Uppercut Insanity
